White Stork
Ciconia ciconia
White storks vanished from the UK in the 15th century due to a combination of over-hunting for food and sport, deliberate persecution, and the widespread destruction of their natural wetland and grassland habitats. Several organisations are working to reintroduce storks into the UK. The reintroduction of this native species will support the restoration of wetlands.
