Emu
Dromaius novaehollandiae
Emus are a large flightless bird (ratites). With most ratites it is the male that incubates the eggs and raises the young. The emu is the largest birds in Australia and the second largest living bird. The emu is a fast runner and can reach speeds of up to 31 mph (50 km/hr). Their long legs enable them to walk considerable distances or outrun danger. Emus are also strong swimmers.
