The future of specialty contact lenses

By Kyriakos Telamitsi

Freeform lenses are rapidly becoming the gold standard for specialty lens patients. Unlike conventional scleral lenses that require multiple trial fittings, freeform lenses can only be designed using advanced corneo-scleral profilometry, offering a fully personalized solution tailored to the unique shape of each patient’s eye.

This data-driven approach not only improves patient comfort and visual acuity but also reduces chair time and the need for multiple refits—leading to higher patient satisfaction. Say goodbye to trial-and-error fittings and experience the future of vision care today.

Fully customized lenses = happier patient

After years of deteriorating vision and discomfort, she was referred by an ophthalmologist to get specialty contacts fitted. Conventional scleral lenses weren’t an option due to her irregular scleral shape, compounded by previous surgeries and severe dry eye.

The Eye Surface Profiler (ESP) provided precise corneo-scleral measurements, allowing for the design of a custom freeform scleral lens that improved her vision from 1/10 unaided to 9/10 with the lens. The lens significantly enhanced her comfort, reducing redness of the sclera and dry eye symptoms.

First and Final Fit

The Eye Surface Profiler and the use of profilometry represent a major advancement in contact lens technology. By enabling the creation of custom lenses that fit perfectly, they enhance comfort and vision for patients with unique corneo-scleral shapes after refractive surgery.
